An astronaut training device known as a multi-axis trainer, designed in the early days of manned spaceflight to test an astronaut's resistance or reaction to the disorientating effects of microgravity or weightlessness. This image shows an example at the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing, China, used for visitors. The red-painted ring rotates between the pillars and the inner white-painted ring can be released to rotate in a perpendicular axis within the red ring. The frame supporting the chair can then rotate within the white ring.
