Duck (Anas platyrhynchos); duckling, still in egg shell, section removed. Known as 'Dead in shell', by aviculturists and poultry breeders, duckling died at point of hatching after 28 days of incubation. Cause unknown. From left to right, webbed foot, head, upside down with left eye and bill facing upwards, peering out from under right wing. Note 'egg tooth' on tip of beak used by young birds to break through membranes and shell.
