In splendid isolation the Mavora Lakes mirrot the Livingstone Mountains in the Southern Alpes in New Zealand. Along the shores parts of the movie "Lord of the Rings were produced. Also the Te Araroa Tramping Track from Cape Reinga far north on the North Island to the very south of New Zealand's South Island passes the Mavora Lakes. In der Einsamkeit der Südalpen spiegeln die Mavora-Seen die Livingstone-Berge Neuseelands wider. An ihren Ufern wurden einige Szenen des Kinofilms "Herr der Ringe" gedreht. Auch der Te Araroa-Fernwanderweg vom äußersten Norden Neuseelands am Kap Reinga bis in den tiefen Süden der Südinsel läuft an den Ufern der Mavora-Seen entlang.
