Foryears he worked on a farmin the summer, receivingfrom $5 to $io a month,and in the winter hisboard and clothing, hebeing permitted to attendthe district school, sometwo miles distant. At 20he was offered, and ac-cepted, a position asteacher in the New Hart-ford school, the same inwhich he had been an earn-est and attentive scholar.
