Strangely hypnotic. A tailings pond at the Syncrude mine. These highly polluted ponds are unlined and leach toxic chemicals into the surrounding environment. As the mines lie on important bird migration routes from the Arctic breeding grounds to the Southern wintering quarters, thousands of wildfowl a year are killed when they land on the oil covered waste water lakes.
