Loyalist 11th night bonfire decorated with the Irish flag and election posters of nationalist politicians.

11th night bonfire Sandy Row Belfast. Loyalist 11th night bonfires are traditional lit on the night before the 12th July and are a show of strength and defiance to what is seen as political concessions to the nationalist community. Young unemployed men patrol the site to prevent wood being stolen by other people for their own bonfires.
