A working mate mill in the small town of Pont-Aven in Brittany of North west France. Pont-Aven is popular with visitors as it has many art galleries, selling copies of original paintings, painted by artists who flocked to the small town towards the end of the 19th century. Pont-Aven was discovered in the 1860s' by an American painter. He was followed by other artists from England, Ireland, Finland, Denmark and France. The town became a popular meeting place for painters such as: Paul Gaugin, Emile Bernard, Maurice Denis, Pierre Bonnard, Meyer de Haan. Theodore Botrel, another artist (1868-1925), bard and song writer also contributed to the success of the town
