Itchan Kala old city, Khiva, Uzbekistan
As a travel photographer and visual anthropologist, I travelled across Turkey to Georgia and then Uzbekistan. Khiva was my first destination there, and wandering into the old city, Itchan Kala, is like wandering back in time. This photograph was taken from the roof of my hotel with hand-made ceramics made by the hotel owner's family in the foreground. The image was captured in the 'golden hour' just before sunset, and the atmosphere was magical.
