He then crossed the plains to California, being 110days on the road, and engaged in mining two years. He then re-turned via Isthmus of Panama, with money enough to purchase theold homestead, his parents having died during his absence. Hedied May 18, 1881. Mrs. Thompsons mother was born August28, 1827, and died February 9,1878. Both are buried at Salem Cem-etery, Tippecanoe County. Mr. and Mrs. Huston Thompson haveone child—Joe, born in April, 1884. Mrs. Thompson is a mem-ber of the Methodist Episcopal church, and he is a Greenbackerin politics. Thomas Thompson came to tiiis county in 1841, andpurchased 160 acres of land, thirty acres of which had been log cabin had been built by Thomas James. It was made ofhewed logs, and was a very nice one. He built his frame house in F^. ^crri/^yi. /^.^c6 ^ AVASHINGTON TOWNSHIP. 923 1861. He now has 100 acres under cultivation. His land was firstowned by John McBride, an uncle; the second owner was ThomasJames. Mr. Thomas has held tl e office of supervisor and schooldirector several years. He is a member of the United Presbyterianchurch, and in he is a Eepublican. John Yansickle was born in Butler County, Ohio, October 23,1822, a son of William and Eachel M. (Southard) Yansickle,natives of New Jersey, who accompanied their parents to Ohio intheir youth. His paternal grandparents were John and Eachel(Van Fleet) Vansickle. The family-consist
