In the last 4 years the Catalan secessionism has marked much of the Spanish politics. The pro-independence parliamentary majority in the Catalan parliament has targeted the realization of a binding referendum on independence. There have been political and legal confrontations between the Spanish government and the Catalan government during what is known as the 'Proces', the Catalan political and social movement that should culminate in the independence of Catalonia. The National Day of Catalonia (La Diada) has been the social reference thermometer during the last years with massive demonstrations in the streets. For the next national day (11 Sept.) again are expected mass rallies demanding independence in several cities of Catalonia.
