Dickinson, Gordon K. (), was born inJersey City, N. J., December 14, 1855. Hewas the first to pass the entrance examinationfor the Class of 1875. He took two yearsof the regular course of study at the Insti-tute and one year of special preparationfor a position on the Transit of Venus Expe-dition, laying a foundation at the same timefor the study of medicine. He entered theBellevue Medical School, New York, in 1874,graduated in 1877, took a postgraduatecourse, and entered active practice in is a member of the American Academy ofScience; the American Medical Association ; 632 THE STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY the New York Academy of Medicine; issurgeon of the City and the Christ hospitals,. He married LouiseWaterman in June, 1888, and they have fivechildren, Louise, Claire, Ruth, Marie, andCelia Dickinson. Parsell, Henry Van Arsdale, w^as born inNewburgh, N. Y., June 3, 1868. At an earlyage he engaged in experimental and mechan-ical work in his own home, where he hadunusual facilities in the way of engines, ma-chines, instruments of research, books ofreference, etc, the collection of which wasbegun by his father and continued by him,until at the present time it is perhaps one ofthe most complete and valuable private in-stallations of its kind.
