The design of this little work, as stated in its title, is toafford a convenient guide to the principal objects of interestin and around Philadelphia, with directions as to the mostavailable methods by which the different points can bereached. To render the work easy of reference, an alphabeticalarrangement of subjects or general heads has been adopted,under which may be found the special subjects, also arrangedin alphabetical order. The new building of the Pennsylvania Academy of Pine Arts, recently opened, is situated at the southwest corner of Broad and CherryStreets, having a front on Broad Street of one hundred feet, with adepth on Cherry Street of two hundred and sixty feet. The structureis fireproof, of brick and stone, in the Venetian style of class- and lecture-rooms furnish ample accommodations tostudents, to whom gratuitous instruction is given in the various branchesof art, and spacious galleries lighted from the ceilings afford excellentopportunities for exhibiting to the best advantage the art treasures ofthe Academy.
