Transport Sierra arrived at Pier 4 in the Port of Embarkation, Hoboken, NJ on December 21, 1918, carrying 35 officers and 1,531 wounded soldiers. Most of the wounded were in the convalescent stage. The soldiers were transported by hospital ships Shinne cook and Ossining to the West Shore Station, and then by rail to Camp Merritt. The photograph shows the loading of litter cases onto the Shinne cook. This information was approved by the censor on December 24, 1918.
