Alien in a jar, Roswell, New Mexico, USA. During a thunderstorm in this area on 2 July 1947 there were a large number of UFO sightings. The subsequent morning a local rancher found wreckage in his field which, it has been alleged, was a UFO craft containing alien bodies. The official explanation is that it was a crashed weather balloon but this has not stopped speculation and conspiracy theories. Many people believe that autopsies were performed on the aliens and their bodies were then preserved, perhaps in a similar way to that shown in this reconstruction.
