Water gardens. THE BOOK OF WATER GARDENING Cyperus alternifolius variegata, with beautiful variegated stems and leaves, should be wintered in the greenhouse. Fatsia papyrifera (sometimes named Aralia papyrifera) grows from five to seven feet high; the leaves are cordate, five to seven lobed, about one foot in length and the same in width. This is the plant from which the rice paper is manufactured. It is hardy in sheltered locations around Washington, D. C, send- ing up shoots from the roots. Farther north the plants should be lifted after the first touch of frost and wintered in a cool CYPERUS ALTERNIFOLIUS The Umbrella Plant Monstera deliciosa is a very interesting plant, with large leaves. It bears an edible fruit which has a taste resembling that between a banana and a pine- apple. The fruit is from six to eight inches long and in form resembles a pine cone.
