detail of Falleras in Las Fallas Fiesta, Dia de San Jose, Denia, Alicante Province, Comunidad Valenciana, Spain

portrait of a "Fallera" at Las Fallas fiesta, a Valencian tradition which celebrates the patron saint of carpenters. Las Fallas means "the fires" in Valencian. The "ninot" (puppet or doll in Valencian) which make up the whole of a falla are usually extremely lifelike and depict bawdy, satirical scenes and current events. In Denia, they are displayed in the streets and then, on the night of the 19th March, at the end of the fiesta they are all set on fire.
