The distinctive terra-cotta rooftops of old Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. During the Croatian war of independence the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) bombarded the city for over 7 months (October 1991 - May1992). The shelling caused damage to 70% of the rooftops, all of which have since been reconstructed.
