Milne joined the 4thGordons as a Privatein November 1914,and went with them toFrance in the spring of1915. After comingsafely through thefighting on that fatal 25 September, he fell inaction at Ffooge on 2 October 1915. Having joined theGrammar School Com-pany of the 4th Gor-dons in June 1913, onthe outbreak of war he was mobilized with his regi-ment, and after training at Bedford and elsewherecrossed with them to France in February the end he remained in the ranks, declininga commission.
