Today’s Whitley’s Shopping Centre, the department store was created first by William Whiteley, who started a drapery shop in 1863 which expanded in to row of shops by 1867 only to be damaged by fire in 1897. The building architecture was designed by John Belcher and John James Joass and open for trading by the Lord Mayor of London in 1911 providing also luxurious entertaiment, ofiices and traning spaces. In 1981 the building was purchased by Whiteleys Partnership, a shopping mall in 1980s, renovated, modernized and updated opened its doors as modern 20, 20th century Shopping Centre in 1989 accommodating main stream retailers and providing entertainment for the consumer once again, historical stone inside marble details, detail, location, Metropolitan city, capital London, district Queensway and Bayswater, post code W2, borough City of Westminster, Great Britain, UK, Europe, EU, BHZ, mpworks
