Biographical Sketches. 57 Wanger, was a prominent citizen of thenorthern end of Chester county, and wasknown throughout that and Montgomerycounties as a man of force of character, andan advocate of the improvement of thepublic school system. He became identi-fied with the movement for the abolition ofslavery while yet a young man, and wasactive in the formation of the Republicanparty in Pennsylvania and in its earlytriumphs in this State. In 1850 he marriedRebecca, a daughter of Rev. John Price,and reared a family of four sons. Hisdeath occured December 30th, 1876, in thefifty-seventh year of his age. Irving P. Wanger was reared on the oldWanger homestead in Chester county, andeducated in the Public schools of his dis-trict and at the Pottstown high and Hillschools. He then taught for one year, andin 1870, became a clerk in the prothono-tarys office in Chester county.
