A Group of Line-bred Wyandottes, bred and owned by Mr. LeDuc on the place. In the fall when the young birds were wellmatured we sold the surplus stock. We would go out atnight and I would catch the roosters and hand them tomother. She would pass on them whether they should goto market or be retained as breeders. Every rooster that wasdifferent from the rest or possessed any peculiar markingsor shape, she would keep for a breeder, and these were al-ways in the majority. We always caught our chickens afterdark, for they roosted high up in the trees and were goodflyers. Mother never sold any hens. She said, The henslay eggs and we must keep them; but I am sure she hadsome hens that didnt lay eggs, for they were so old theyhad passed their period of usefulness long before. All theywould do was sit and this they did everywhere and at alltimes.
