A buffalo attached to a crossbar (Sulawesi). In Indonesia, buffaloes are often attached high to an horizontal bamboo - by a rope which crosses their nostrils - obliging them to continuously raise the head. According to some Sulawesians, owners do so with the aim of developping the muscles of the buffalo's neck by static tensing .
