The tree is an upright, pyra- midal grower, vig- orous and very pro- ductive. The fruit grows sometimes singly, but gener- ally in clusters of two and three from the same bud, and hangs firmly to the tree when exposed to influences which cause other varie- ties to drop. The specimens, as will be seen from the annexed engraving are large to very large. weighing from one to two pounds, larger than the Bartlett or Glaep's Favoeite. to which they bear a strong resem- blance. The skin is smooth, bright yellow, when the fruit is fully ma- tured, with the parts exposed t o the sun a brilliant red or carmine. The flesh, while it is very like that of the Bartlett, has a less defined musky flavor, and it is firm to the core. It commences to ripen about the first of August, before the Bartlett, and extends into September. | 'We cannot too strongly recommend this as one of the greatest acquisitions to the^List of new an I fine Pears.
