Dainichi-ji is temple No. 13 on the Shikoku pilgrimage. Until its destruction by fire in the 16th century, it was associated with the Ichinomiya Shinto Shrine, across the street. The two were officially separated during the persecution of Buddhism at the beginning of the Meiji Period. The current structure was built in the later part of the Meiji that Temple No. 4 is also called Dainichi-ji.
