Oradour sur Glane preserved Limousin village scene of WW2 Nazi SS massacre France
Oradour-sur-Glane was the site of an appalling massacre by the German Waffen-SS on 10th June 1944, when they encircled the village, rounded up its inhabitants, and ruthlessly slaughtered them all including women and children. A minority of people escaped the brutal attack or fled when they first saw the Germans appear. The village was preserved as a memorial by General de Gaulle after the war, and a new village was subsequently built nearby.
