Lange Voorhout, The Hague, The Netherlands. Tuesday 11th July 2023. Since 1997, the National Remembrance Day Srebrenica Genocide has been held every year on July 11 at Het Plein in The Hague. A change of venue for today’s event held at Lange Voorhout. On this day, more than eight thousand victims of the genocide in Srebrenica are commemorated. These people were killed in 1995 by radical nationalist Serb and Bosnian Serb aggression, after the enclave fell under the watchful eye of the UN. Many of them have not yet been found. Srebrenica and its surroundings are dotted with mass graves from which the remains are still being exhumed, then identified and only then reburied in the large cemetery in Potočari (Srebrenica).
