The form of this Urchin is depressed and angular; theground colour dark brownish-purple with pinkish-whitetubercles and greenish spines. From the Echinus lividusit is easily distinguished by its short spines, greater size,and the pairs of pores being always five in each row from SILKY-SPINED EGG-URCHIN. 173 apex to mouth. When fresh taken, one is much more apt toconfound it with a depressed variety of the common Sea-Urchin, f
