Philadelphia office of Hitchings & Co., Samuel Bedstone sailed October 14 for an extended vacation at his home in Devonshire, England. Herman Scommadau, of A. L. Young & Co., has received many words of sym- pathy in the loss of his father last week. The elder Scommadau, -who was 72 years of age, was one of the oldest retail florists-in New York. He began in 1859 and for the last thirty-five years had been located at the corner of Eighth avenue and Thirty-fourth street. W. H. Milleis brother of A. L. Miller, has been unusually busy lately with funeral work and decorations for prom- inent retailers. His headquarters are at 54 West Twenty-eighth street. Jack Trepel's new store on Fulton street, Brooklyn, is one of the handsom- est in that city. It ought to be, at $10,000 annual rental. Business has been good since the opening. John Young is back from his trip to Chicago and St. Louis. The New York Florists' Supply Co. says business has never been so good at this season as now. Sales are double those of last year. J. Austin Shaw. BOSTON. The Market. Conditions in the wholesale markets continue quite satisfactory and stock of nearly every kind cleans up well. October weather has materially im- proved the quality of roses and carna- tions and, killing frosts having finished off practically all outdoor flowers, there is an improved call for greenhouse stock of all kinds. Eoses have weakened slightly, but there are no particular sup- plies of any varieties. American Beau- ties are in better supply and of im- proved q
