A crosssection of the fire box would show themud ring to be 4^ ins. wide at the sidesand a longitudinal section of the boilerwould make clear the S in. width of themud ring at the front end of the firebox. The grate area in this fire box is4554 sq. ft. The back sheet slopes inabout 27 ins. at the top and the crownsheet slopes also slightly to the front,giving, however, a steam and waterspace of about 24 ins. above the crown.
