Hospice de la Saltpetriere


The view taken in 1828, shows the Hospice de la Saltpetriere is also called the Hospital General and situated on the Rue Poliveau and Boulevard de l’Hopital near the Jardin du Roi. It served the population of Paris in the reign of Louis XIV. It was designed by Liberal Bruant. In the 19th century it was both a Hospital for Women and a Prison for Women. The image was drawn by B Ferrey under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by B Winkles
