An old engraving of oilwells on Hyde and Egbert's Farm, Oil Creek, Pennsylvania, USA It is from a Victorian book of the 1890s on discoveries and inventions during the 1800s. Wooden derricks and containers for the oil are centre after oil was discovered along the Alleghany River valley north of Pittsburg. Alexander Davidson’s property ended up as the Hyde and Egbert Farm when the two Egbert brothers put a down payment on the farm in 1860. Alexander died and his wife negotiated a one twelfth royalty for the oil on the 38-acre farm in 1862.
