This is the showpiece nebula of the southern skies, the Carina Nebula, aka the Eta Carinae Nebula. Surrounding it are smaller patches of emission nebulosity: NGC 3603 and 3579 at lower left; and NGC 3247 in the far upper right corner. The bright and rich Football Cluster, aka the Black Arrow Cluster or Pincushion Cluster, NGC 3532, is at upper left, partly immersed in faint nebulosity. At upper right embedded in an extended bit of the Carina Nebula is the Gem Cluster, NGC 3324. This is a blend of several stacks of images: 12 x 5-minutes with no filter, and 8 x 10 minutes with an IDAS NBZ dual narrowband filter to bring out the red H-alpha nebulosity; and 8 x 1-minute for the bright central core of the nebula to prevent it from overexposing. All blended with luminosity masks. All were with the Sharpstar EDPH III refractor at and filter-modified Canon R at ISO 3200 for the filtered shots and ISO 800 for the unfiltered shots, long and short. On the Astro-Physics AP 400 mount autoguided with the Lacerta MGEN 3 stand-alone autoguider. Taken on a superb night, March 8, 2024 from the Warrumbungles Mountain Motel near Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, on the first night of the 2024 OzSky Star Safari.
