A good average garden soil will produce wonderful flowers. It should be well drained and thoroughly loosened to a depth of 8 to 10 inches. Plant the tubers so that they are about 6 inches below the top of the ground. Either animal or commercial fertilizer may be used but care should be taken not to let it touch the roots. A handful of commercial iFertiiizer may be mixed with the soil at planting and another handful or two hoed in during the growing season. To obtain exhibition flowers, disbud all but a few of the buds, thus throwing all the strength of the plant into a few flowers. Cultivate continuously throughout the growing season.
