Mesenteric stage of intestinal surgery. Surgeon using a Covidien Ligasure device to divide the mesentery during an ileocecectomy. The mesentery is the membranous tissue attached to the intestines that carries the blood supply for the intestines. An ileocecectomy is an operation that removes the caecum and the terminal part of the ileum. This can be for a number of reasons, ranging from surgery for bowel cancer to treating Crohn's disease.
