Pygmy Rwandan Waterlily, Nymphaea thermarum, Nymphaeaceae. Rwanda, Africa. This is the smallest waterlily in the world with a flower only 1-3cm across. It was declared extinct in the wild by the IUCN in 2010, when its one and only natural habitat, a muddy hot spring in southwestern Rwanda dried up. Prior to this, wild plants and seed were collected and sent to Kew Gardens where this tiny plant has managed to be propogated and saved from total extinction.
