Such jackets maybe made more effective by padding in-side of the jacket over the convexityof the curve with a large window cuton the side of the concavity. The Cook Strap.—The use of a broad webbing strap passingaround the convexity of the spine and coming out of a large windowon the opposite side of the jacket has been advocated by Cook^and possesses certain advantages over padding in removable jackets Am. Journ. of Orth. Surg., July, Fig. 143.—Fenestrated Jack-et Applied to Patient withLower Dorsal Curve Strap inPlace.—(Ansel G. Cook.) 174 TREATMENT and even in permanent forcible jackets. It is easily adjustable, givesa well-distributed pressure and can be varied by the position ofthe strap to attack either the rotation or side deviation. In con-nection with a large window on the concave side of the curve itfurnishes a powerful means of constant correction. Cook appliesthe strap to a jacket with large windows on both sides but the writerhas found the best use of the strap as a substitute for paddingin jackets not in any way modified from the usual pattern.
