Face and skull model. This reconstruction of the shape and anatomy of a human face and skull has been produced using data from a 3D scan. The process used is selective laser sintering (SLS), an additive manufacturing technique that uses a laser to melt and fuse a polymer powder to form 3D shapes. This technique allows the accurate reproduction of complex geometric shapes, such as the contours of the face and the internal bone structure of the skull. The latter has been applied in studies of fossil skulls. This cast has been produced by the Initial company, founded in 1991 and based in Annecy, France. Photographed in 2010.
