Charger, 1877, (none assigned) New York, New York, United States, American, ceramic, 17 in. diameter x 2 in. deep ( x cm), Ceramics, John Bennett (1840–1907), The rare charger embodies John Bennett’s penchant for Anglo-Japanese style, one of the defining characteristics of the Aesthetic Movement. Painted the same year that Bennett immigrated to New York from England, the charger strongly relates to an earlier example of Doulton Pottery, where Bennett developed and taught his method of underglaze decoration
