. A text-book of electrical engineering;. - Induced Electromotive Force 83 is the same as if the pole were fixed and the armature wires moved to theleft. If we imagine ourselves to be swimming with the field, that is, fromNto A and looking in the direction of the relative motion of the conductors, that is, towards the left, the direction of the induced will be indicatedby our right hand, that is, downwards through the paper. The current inthe wires at A will therefore be represented by crosses, while in a similarmanner we find that the current in the wires under the south pole is comingtowards us and must be represented by dots. Another simple rule for finding the direction of the induced is theright-hand rule. If the thumb and first two fingers of the right hand pointmutually at right angles, like the three edges at a corner of a cube, and thefirst finger points along the lines of force, while the thumb points in thedirection of motion, the second finger will give the direction of the inducedelectromotive
