K, 6th Mass. and 22d Mass. Regrt. Captain Walter Scott Sampson was bornin Kingston, on Februar_v 22, 1835,■son of Benjamin and Sarah (Bradford)Sampson. He was on both .sides de-scended from the old Pilgrim stock. Hisedncation was obtained in the districtschools of his native town, and at the ageof eighteen he came to Boston andengaged in the occupation of mason. Heearly V)ecanie identified with the militia,and on the outbreak of the Rebellion w^asCaptain of Company K, Sixth ,which Company he connnanded during thethree months campaign of 1861. Return-ing to Boston from this service, he wasmade Captain in the Twentj-SecondUnited States Volunteers, and with thatcommand took part in the operations ofthe Army of the Potomac until the latterpart of 1862. Upon his return to civil life,he resumed his occupation as a builder andachieved great success. He erected manyprominent buildings, notably the newCourt House. He has been active
