A magnificent narwhal tusk, Greenland, 20th century. Unusually large, heavy and impressive tusk, with beautifully grown, spiral-shaped structure. Sturdy point, fine surface with light-coloured, slightly uneven patina. Length approx. 250 cm, weight kg(!), diameter (at the widest point) cm(!). The narwhal (Monodon monoceros) is a member of the Monodontidae family. In previous times its stately tusk was believed to be the horn of the legendary unicorn and was said to have magical powers.
