Haughmond Abbey, Shrewsbury. 11th October 2024. Vivid Northern Lights shine bright around the ruins of Haughmond Abbey near Shrewsbury in the early hours of Friday morning. The Aurora was visible to most parts of the UK. Haughmond was founded as a small chapel or hermitage on a wooded hill to the east of Shrewsbury in about 1100 and destroyed. The abbey was dissolved in 1539 as part of Henry VIII's nationwide Dissolution of the Monasteries. Credit: British News and Media/Alamy Live News
