Shiva on the peak of Mount Kailasa

Shiva, seated on a throne on the peak of Mount Kailasa, imparting wisdom to five sages. In his upper right hand the god carries the damaru ( hourglass shaped drum) and in his upper left hand the mriga (gazelle). His lower right hand is in abhaya and his lower left in varada mudra. Four of the five sages are seated on an elegantly decorated four-legged throne, and the fifth stands holding a discussion with the god. They are all bare-chested, dressed in dhotis and wearing jata makutas. Mount Kailasa is schematically shown as an inverted truncated pyramid.
