Concordia base buildings. Concordia Station, a research station in Antarctica, was completed in 2005. It is over 1000 kilometres inland, high on the Antarctic plateau at an altitude of 3233 metres, at the location called Dome C. It is a permanent, all-year research station, the third to be built in Antarctica, and is jointly operated and run by France and Italy, though researchers come from all over the world. The green building is an Australian research laboratory. At centre is the main habitation building, while research work is done in the building at right. Concordia Station is used for meteorological and glaciological research, and also for astronomical research.
