This Anonymous tomb stands on a high square plinth which has chhatris at main tomb is essentially square but its angles have been chamfered to give it an octagonal appearance. This is the Baghdadi muthamman (Octagonalised square) plain which was popularly used by the Mughals (1560-1658). the interor iscomposed of a centraal octagonal hall. Four octagonal rooms at the corners and oblong arcaded Dalans on the sides. All interconnected by passages. This was perhaps the beginning of the specific Navagraha plan of the Mughals. There are three broad typical Pathan arches on each Pacade, protected by a Chhajja(Balcony), brackets whereof have survived. It was roofed by a broad massive dome which has been destroyed two tombstones, obviously of husband-wife are still there sunk in the roof. It seems that cenotaphs where also there in the central hall while the real graces were in the crypt the entire construction is of rubble and brick masonry with minimal stone work. It was all thick plastered tarces of the painting have survived. there is no historical record to identify the prince or noble who was buried here along which his consort thogh stylistically,the tomb can be assigned to the reign of Brahim Lodi(1517 26 ) As such, it is the earliest muslim mausoleum at Agra. It has been restored and conserved by the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI)[Content written on monument board] Mariam’s tomb is located on the left side of Agra-Mathura road, to the west of Akbar’s tomb, Sikandara. The tomb houses the mortal remains of Mariam Zamani, a Rajpt Princess of Amber (Jaipur) and the wife of Emperor Akbar and mother of Jahangir (Salim). The structure was originally a pleasure pavilion under Sikander Lodi who built it in AD 1495. Additions and renovations were made in 1623 AD when this baradari was converted into a tomb. The ground floor consists of some forty chambers built by Sikander Lodi, which bear faint traces of paintings on plastered walls. [content by ]
