Illustration of a pollen grain of common hazel tree (Corylus avellana). The size and shape of the pollen grains differ between single species, but they are all distributed through the air and so is very light. In early spring the pollen is released in a large amounts from male catkins and can cause allergic reactions such as rhinitis and hay fever.
