Crew working aboard the traditional gaff cutter "Jolie Brise", running downwind in the Solent, Hampshire, UK
Jolie Brise, arguably one of the most famous tall ships in the world, is a gaff-rigged pilot cutter built and launched by the Albert Paumelle Yard in Le Havre in 1913. After a short career as a pilot boat, owing to steam replacing sail, she became a fishing boat, a racing yacht and a sail training vessel. She has won the Fastnet Race three times, including the first race in 1925 and more recently she has been overall winner of the Tall Ships Races four times. In 1993 she entered the Fastnet Race again, more than sixty years after her last time in 1931.
