Marie Antoinette (1755-1793), wife of King Louis XVI of France and queen of France, is shown here in her youth in the small chateau known as Petit Trianon on the grounds of the Palace Versailles, with her gloves and riding crop. She was the daughter of Hapsburg ruler Franz Joseph I and Maria Theresa. She was imprisoned during the French Revolution and taken, in a cart, to the guillotine on October 16, 1793.
