Nitrogenase protein. Molecular model of the MoFe protein, one of two proteins (MoFe and Fe) that combine to form the enzyme nitrogenase. Nitrogenase is used by certain organisms to ensure the electron transfer required for fixation of dinitrogen gas (N2) into ammonia (NH3). In this model the molecule's shape (secondary structure) is seen, comprising alpha helices (coils), beta sheets (arrows) and linking regions (lines).
