Edward George Geoffrey Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby (1799 – 1869) was a British statesman, who became Chief Secretary for Ireland in Lord Grey's Government, and entered the Cabinet in 1831. His letter established the system of National Education in Ireland and he oversaw the passage of the Abolition of Slavery Bill. He became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on three occasions.
